Helsinki Philharmonic Chorus

Helsinki Philharmonic Chorus (Helsingin filharmoninen kuoro) is an autonomous symphonic chorus, based in the capital area of Finland. Apart from its solo appearances, the chorus collaborates with the top symphony orchestras of Finland. The chorus was established in the 1970s for the Savonlinna Opera Festival and was later known as the Finnish Philharmonic Chorus [1996 – 2006].

The chorus has worked with many of the world leading conductors such as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and Okko Kamu, and accompanied soloists such as Luciano Pavarotti, José Carreras, Karita Mattila, and Matti Salminen, whilst touring widely in Europe and Finland. The chorus’ repertoire encompasses in addition to many opera scenes and modern pieces, all the major choral masterpieces, several of which have been recorded.

The members of the HFK chorus include professional musicians, music and voice students, as well as well-trained amateur singers. The chorus master is conductor Hannu Norjanen.
