Tommi Niskala
ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Since 2024, HFK has been led by MuM Tommi Niskala. Niskala graduated from the Sibelius Academy in 2011, specialising in choral conducting. He has also studied organ and singing, supplementing his studies with masterclasses. Niskala works as the choir director and cantor at Kallio Parish and also conducts the Kallio Cantata Choir and the Finnish Missionary Society’s Safari Choir. Previously, he worked as the director of the Etelä-Pohjanmaa Male Voice Choir ‘Jussit’ and as the opera choirmaster at the Ilmajoki Music Festival.
HFK is a choir with a powerful sound and a big heart. There are not many choirs in Finland capable of performing, under their own steam, large orchestral works requiring symphonic choral sound, such as Verdi’s Requiem. HFK is one of them. “Given my background, which is very much focused on singing, I believe that working with such a large vocal ensemble will be rewarding for both sides,” says Tommi Niskala.
